Blog post 12

 Blog post 12

For this course, I have learned a lot about education, a teacher should teach, interact and help make students have a better education. I have learned so much through service learning but the main three things that I will take away from this course is : the asset and deficit model, the Shelaby troublemakers article, and learning more about Delpit. The asset and deficit model is still a skill that I am currently working on in my job as well, there challenges when it comes to behavior and there should never be a term of bad kid. relaying on the strengths of students will give them more confidence in their learning and actually allow them to grow academically. In the troublemakers article, I learned that students who act out might do it for approval of attention when students most valuable needs are not met, that may cause them cause trouble or disrupt the flow of the classroom. Each child deserves a better view of education and isolating them based upon their behavior would only single out that one student, which then in turn make them more disruptive. It is imperative that teachers find a solution to correct the behavior but allow grace to take place within the climate. In Delpit, it amazed how teachers who hold authority over students abuse it. telling off a student or better yet treat them harshly just because they are a student is inherently wrong. Setting clear expectations, rules and boundaries is important so that students may be able understand why rules are their in the first place. this what this course has taught me and I am proud to have gain so much knowledge from it.

Delpit The Culture of Power

this is a connection and reflection

In Delpit, she explains the culture of power controls the synergy of a classroom in education. whatever is the status quo students must follow. it shows that those that are not aware of the power are met with disciplinary consequences based  upon the teacher's assumption and tone. If students do not know the rules of a classroom, and happens to break a rule, the student may react in way of hurt or anger. It is the educators job to set rules and expectations that students can easily met, if the teacher is focused on trying to assert dominance in the classroom, some students may have trouble adhering to them and their rules, this should give teachers a better solution to handle situations as such.

Think about a time you broke a rule in school, if it was a rule you did not know was in place how did you and the teacher react to your situation. It is important that students are mindful of the rules and that they clearly understand what is being asked of them to do and not to do.
